Congratulations to Matthew Nyaaba for being named the Amazing Student for September 2024 in the College of Education at the University of Georgia!
Hailing from Ghana, Matthew is pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Theory and Practice under the mentorship of Dr. Xiaoming Zhai, while working with the AI4STEM Education Center.
Matthew’s cutting-edge research focuses on the intersection of AI and education, with a goal of identifying best practices for the responsible use of AI to support students of all backgrounds. He is passionate about promoting inclusive and equitable assessments and achievements through AI, particularly in addressing the digital divide.
A central aspect of his work is developing frameworks that equip teachers to create culturally responsive teaching and assessment strategies for K-12 science education. His research explores how AI tools, such as generative AI for automatic assessment generation, can reduce the workload of teachers, allowing them to focus on student development while ensuring culturally sensitive assessments.
Matthew’s innovative contributions promise to help shape the future of AI in education, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate his achievements.
